André Pereira Matos

André Pereira Matos works as an Assistant Professor of European Studies at the Department of Humanities of Universidade Aberta, in Portugal, where he is the deputy coordinator of the MA in Studies on Europe. André Matos holds a BA in Languages and International Relations from the University of Porto (2006) and a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Nova University of Lisbon (2014). André Pereira Matos primarily conducts research on Turkey and the Middle East, the European Union, democracy, and human rights. He has published numerous scientific articles, a book, and contributed to collective works on these topics. Additionally, he frequently presents scientific and academic communications on these subjects in Portugal and abroad. André Matos has organized various scientific events, supervised dissertations, and participated in different research projects. Previsously, André Matos has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Law of Portucalense University (2015-2024), where he coordinated the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in International Relations and Diplomacy. He has also held positions at the University of Minho (2019-2024), as an Invited Assistant Professor. As a researcher at the Portucalense Institute for Legal Research, he also served as the representative of researchers on the Management Committee. As a Professor, André Matos has been responsible for various academic units, including Introduction to European Studies, Media Representations in Europe, International Relations Theory, Democracy and International Governance, Political Science, International Responsibility, and Research Methodology. In his professional career, he has worked as an international consultant at the Portuguese Society of Innovation and held various university management positions, such as Erasmus Institutional Coordination and Secretary-General of the Portucalense Institute for Legal Research. Currently, he is a member of the Board of the International Relations Section of the Portuguese Association of Political Science and sits on the Scientific Council of the Portucalense University. He is also the Coordinator of the evaluation panel for Political Science Doctoral Scholarships at the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
